A Lady Bug’s Journey

Life is often boring and mundane living in automation mode. We are gifted with time but mindlessly go through life without thought to the moment. One example is when making lunch. I gather the ingredients or reheat leftovers while my mind wonders unattended.

Finding a lady bug swimming in my kale brought me a beautiful gift of living in the moment.

While rinsing kale I saw what I thought was a dead bug floating but on closer inspection it was alive and swimming. When I scooped the lady bug up into to my hand the bug righted itself and continued walking along on my fingers as if life simply continued with ease. I could feel the tiny bugs movement and I felt an immense sense of awe and wonder at our intersecting journeys in life.

The lady bug had survived, I am guessing without knowing, the travel from harvesting to the food store to my home in a refrigerated bag with the kale. Then my chopping the kale into eatable pieces and rinsing it off in a round container of water.

This tiny moment of awe reminded me that we are all on a journey in life and the struggles are as real as the sweet moments are beautiful.

When placing the lady bug outside I wondered and worried for the lady bugs journey. Would they live long? Survive the weather and being transplanted from where they came from? Would they find a new home?

Then in a moment of attention to where my thoughts were going I let go and hoped for the best and centered my thoughts on appreciation and gratitude for our paths crossing.

Nature reminds me we are one with all beings and for all beings the journey continues through our intersecting paths. My day was brighter, with a deeper sense of awe and appreciation simply from the lady bug sharing the moment with me in my life’s journey.
